Re: "Tai
New Version (TNV)" Bible Translation
Dear Friend,
We have prayed for a new Bible version for Tai people. With
the love and help of my family members I have tried on translating English to
Tai language on some Bible verses and Bible stories for children. We have been
seeking God help and His favor by submitting our prayer to Him with thanksgiving
on every Sunday night; and requesting prayers from our friends and pastors. On
March 16, 2012 expecting to receive a fresh touch from God my son and I attend
to “A Night of Hope with Joel & Victoria” worship meeting at Time Union
Center, Albany. I experienced a great touch and encouragement from God that
strengthen my hope and enlarging my vision. Firstly the Lord helps me to
overcome the procrastination, the give up mentality and mediocrity that often
drags me down whenever I try to go out further and up higher. Secondly I have
become more and more courageous and confident in the Lord. Obediently I take
this step of faith by committing to invest all God’s given energy and gifts
that I have to involve with the Lord while He is making and creating everything
new. Finally I dare to declare this new beginning of the "Tai New Version
(TNV)" project today. I thank our Almighty God for His rich love and mercy
to our Teekham family. Together with my family we pray that God will take care
of this project and call great friends and partners to us. We submitted this
whole plan and project to be His and asked for His favor in waiting to serve
Him accordingly. May God provide the needs and give us the wisdom to accomplish
this Tai New Version (TNV) Bible Translation.
The Tai
New Version (TNV) will be for both the old and new testaments of the Holy Bible
and it
does not purpose to be a substitution that to replace or ruin the
existing one
but just to make a new version. In fact, I am so thankful that a Shan
Version
Bible and some Shan dictionaries vis-à-vis in English are available
nowadays. This new translation is a new creation which will basically
get from the New International Version (NIV) with the value sources from
the
KJV, NASB, GNT and AMP as many as possible. It will be in daily use
common Tai
language and complying altogether with newly created, copied and adopted
words
as languages are closely intertwined in nature. Furthermore, in this new
version I am going to avoid using the Pali (Prakrit language) of the
Buddhist
scriptures, except a few terms those are already deeply rooted as a
common use
in Tai community. Please pray together with us to the Holy Spirit to
lead and guide
our mind, heart, spirit and action of every step so that we can do our
best to
carefully preserve the truth and accuracy.
I have been working on Tai translation for almost 10 years as
freelancer. The “Tai” is my native blood and the unofficial estimated
population is 10 millions nowadays. They are called as “Shan” by other nations
while they name themselves “Tai” in their own language. The Tai (Shan) people
are the inhabitants of the Shan state; and hundreds of thousands of Tai live in
Karenni(Kayar) and Kachin states as well as in Mandalay, SaKaing and Rangoon
Divisions, of Burma(Myanmar). Meanwhile, there are also millions of Tai living
in Yunnan province of China, northern Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. I realized that a Tai language translation
is in great need and high demand these days, since there is no standard
school for their language to be taught and even have being forbidden to do so
by the Burmese dictator government till now. Tai people are not even allowed to
freely use their language in their own community. Sorrowfully, Tai race and
their language are almost disappeared on this world records. I recognized this
is a right thing to do. And I believe this translation is absolutely helpful to
their living daily life.
With the expectation to meet the needs of Tai and to fulfill a
gap as a bridge for the truth, I have begun a journey of translation English
and Tai vis-a- vis. For example, by
grace I could create the “Sing Praise to the Truth” web blog (http://aungmart-teekham.blogspot.com/).
I simply believe this is one of God given vision and mission for me as I was
called. Yet it is slow in progress and still a long way to go, but I have come
too far to stop and turn back. It is impossible for me to quit and settle with
anything less. I’ve got to press on. I've to keep believing, standing strong
and hoping in the Lord. I thank my God for every good thing he has done and
happened to me today.
I’m currently translating books,
messages and stories about
God our Lord Jesus Christ and writing some Tai songs and encouragement
messages. Furthermore, I try on translating laws from English into Tai
to help
them become familiar with the written law in their own language and have
a
better understanding on law. In another words, I believe this will be an
encouragement and a step of promoting the rule of law system in Tai
community.
Simultaneously it may be helpful for Tai people to read and understand
the
Bible and then keep the precepts of God in heart. Moreover, it is all
about
assisting Tai people to be reconciled with God by believing in Jesus so
that
each of them will be born again in Christ and saved. God's salvation,
healing, and redemption would be more among Tai community as they become
to know Jesus and accept Him. In addition, this translation would also
help them live a joyful life and rebuild a new nation where there is
freedom
and opportunities to pursue happiness; and then to enhance Tai national
friendships and extend toward international relationships. I will earnestly seek the Lord. I am going to
need your helps and the help of others who love God and want to help the whole
world discover the purposes and plans that they were created to fulfill. I hope
you are praying with us.
By grace, at present we’ve successfully got the book of John
done. But a big obstacle is we don’t have money for printing, making a book,
distributing and reaching out to those Tai people. We desperately need the Lord
to show us the way and take us through this destiny into victory.
Very often, in our thanksgiving prayer to our loving Father
God, we remember you all and thank you for everything you have done in helping
and supporting us. Unfortunately, I am facing difficulties. One is that I could
not have some of the Tai letters to be properly posted on my blog due to a few
problems with Tai font; (e.g., Some Tai’s tone symbols and letters could not be
posted or saved on the blog) and another serious issue is that I do not have
enough financial resources. I need to get the Tai font modified.
Simultaneously, if I have enough money and man resources then there will be more
fruitful and beautiful outcome. It is impossible for me alone to do all these.
I may need an organization. Though I now have my family helping along side with
me I definitely still need a team to help me doing research, to work day in and
day out with me on paper works and communication, to assist me for Biblical
knowledge in English and for proof reading in Tai language and so on. I just
step out today by faith. As I and my family press toward the goal, we will be
very grateful to you if you help us to overcome these challenges. Please take
your precious time to pray and join with us from this small step and on. Surely, with your partnership we will move
further and stronger to accomplish the missions and achieve those wonderful
things. By faith we will live and act.
Please seriously think about financially, physically and
spiritually helping us and sowing the seed with us. We need your helps. The
vision is big, but we are weak. If this is also a vision of you from the Lord,
please actively partner with us. You are always invited and welcomed. Please
let us know your thoughts. We expect to work with you for we know that we will
work better when we work together. We
hope this new beginning of TNV will be richly blessed by the gracious and merciful
God and you are all blessed as well.
Above all else, we thank our heavenly Father for His blessings
and gifts in Jesus' Name. Thank you so much again for your love and support.
Thank you in advance for your generosity too.
Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus
our Lord.(1 Timothy 1:2,NIV)
Sincerely,
Signed

Dear Pastor Joel and Victoria Osteen,
Thank you so much for your prayer and encouragement messages.
Thanks be to God that I have had great opportunity and prayers from your ministries. In 2014 I got a chance to meet you in New York and handed to you a sample book of John Tai translation which I was working on and requested you to pray for me. Today, rejoice with me, for I am so glad with full of joy because I’ve got the New Testament translation done. I honestly believe this is one of God’s answers to your prayer and us. I am grateful to our brothers and sisters in Christ those who also pray with us. I am so excited for the next step toward the destination. I can’t wait to see Tai people get to know our Lord Jesus more and each of them will be saved. At a dinner my family and I joyfully gave thanks to the Holy God and praised Him for His love, grace, mercy and this great blessing. I’m so thankful also to my wife, son and daughter for their love, prayers and every help.
Please keep on praying with me in submitting to the Lord for His favor, support, wisdom and guidance. Pray for me a good health and humble heart too. Thank you so very much again to you all in Christ Jesus.
Sincerely,
Saiaung M Teekham
