STORY ON FAREWELL PRAYER OF JESUS

After the last supper, Jesus talked to His disciples for a long time. He wanted to prepare them for the difficult days ahead. “You must trust and believe in me, just as you believe in God,” He said. “I am going to leave you soon. But after I have risen from the dead, we shall meet again. Do not be overcome by fear or despair, even when it seems everything has gone wrong.”

Jesus continued, “When I return to my Father, I promise not to leave you alone. My Father will send the Holy Spirit to comfort you. Although you will not be able to see Him, He will guide you in the true way. He will help you remember the things I have taught you. He will also give you courage to obey my commandments.”

“I will prepare beautiful mansions for you in heaven,” said Jesus. “Then one day I will come again to take you there. You already know the way.”

But Thomas said, “Lord, we have no idea where you are going. How can we know the way?”

“I am the way to God,” answered Jesus. “I am the only bridge from man to God. No one can come to God except across that bridge.”

Jesus said lovingly, “Before I leave you, I will give you the gift of peace—My Peace. It is not the world’s kind of peace. My peace will keep you strong and joyful even during hard times.”

Then Jesus prayed a most beautiful prayer. Lifting His eyes to heaven, He said, “Holy Father, I have told these disciples all about you. Keep them safe from Satan’s power. Make them pure and holy through your truth. I pray not only for these with me, but also for all those who will believe in me from this time until the end of the world.”

After Jesus finished talking to His disciples, they went out into the night. They crossed the brook Kidron and entered the garden of Gethsemane.
